One in four U.S. children struggle with hunger, while one in three is obese or overweight. Yet the root cause is the same: lack of access to healthy food.
Give children nutrition education in the classroom, hands-on learning through school gardens, and nourishing food in the cafeteria, and a lifetime of healthy eating can take root.
FoodCorps is a national nonprofit organization that seeks to address childhood obesity and diet-related disease while training future farmers and public health leaders.
Our first 50 service members are spending this year teaching food and nutrition education, building and tending school gardens, and sourcing local food for school meals in communities with limited resources and high-obesity rates.
